1st haircut
So I caved and we got Hutson's 1st haircut this weekend. I was expecting a squirmy, crying child but he surprised me. He seemed unaffected by the whole process. See the pictures below and his facial expressions were the same throughout. And he didn't say a word. I think he was overwhelmed. We went to a kids' salon. There were lots of kids and televisions there. We don't let him watch TV so I think he was pretty immersed with it. It was fun to watch and I think it turned out pretty cute!

Things to remember about our life here pt. 1

Austin
If you have been following the blog somewhat regularly you'll know that Mike graduated from law school in May. He took the bar at the end of July. He began applying for jobs after the bar. Well he went on his very first interview for law positions on Tuesday, August 19th (last week). He was really excited about the position and came home from Austin (that's where the job is) very excited. They told him they would do 2nd interviews on Monday (the 25th). Well they called on Wednesday (the 20th...the day after the interview) and told him he did not get a 2nd interview but instead they offered him the job! He accepted and will start on the 15th. Last weekend we headed to Austin and found an apartment. My wonderful friend Allie lives in Austin and has been helping us out and letting us stay with her and Robert (her husband). Thanks Allie!
Mike will be working at the Texas State Teacher's Association. It's a teacher's union. If you ask him he can tell you what he'll be doing but basically it boils down to helping answer legal questions for teachers who are part of the union.
We're excited about Austin but really sad to leave Houston. We have family here (Mike's parents and brother and his family). They are great. Mike's parents are great about keeping Hutson at the last minute or just giving us a break to go to the grocery store. We'll also just miss them. We have a great time with them, and Hutson just adores his Pops and Mawmaw.
We'll miss our incredible friends too. We have such a great support here. Russ...who puts up with me, helps Mike move furniture, plays with Hutson, and pretty much is just the best friend! Jenni and Earl who let me stay with them while I was pregnant and Mike was in DC. They also bought me a steak when I craving red meat (during the pregnancy). Nick and Laura have kept Hutson over night when he was still waking up several times a night! They were also always there with support and food during my hospital stays. Sabrina and Shawn were always there with food when I was in the hospital too and Sabrina has done her fair share of helping me in the hospital. Sharron and Daniel have always been my models for photography and let me photograph their beautiful babe too! In fact, everyone has let me photography their babies even when I was really just starting out. :) Thanks y'all....we're certainly going to miss you.
We're also so sad about leaving our house. It's our first house and we brought Hutson home here. I'm so sad about it. I'm trying to take pictures of Hutson in the house these last few days.
Good news...I'm going to be able to work only part-time! yay...I'm so excited to be able to spend more time with Hutson. We will miss the Jewish Community Center. It's such a great place and Hutson really loves it.
Okay so that's our big news. Sorry for all the wordiness here.
Two pictures for you. They're not the best pictures because I was in a hurry but I think they're both cute. The first one is of Mike's mom (Mawmaw), Hutson, and Owen. Mike's parents are the best and even keep our friends kids when needed! I dare anyone to say they have better in-laws. :)
The next photo is of Hutson being silly. Too bad it's out of focus.

I love you
This has been Hutson's response to I love you for about a week and a half now. I or Mike will say, "Hutson, I love you" and he responds with "I know" for all those who couldn't interpret. I think it's just so cute. I'm so glad he knows we love him. :) He's crying at the beginning because before I shot this I was showing him some video and he wanted to look some more.
The bruise is from a fall on Sunday. Ouch! He had a pretty big goose egg and being the first-time mom I am I called the nurse on call. She told us to wake him up two hours after he went to bed and then 4 hours later for 48 hours. They also told us to sleep in the same room with him. I really didn't think it was that serious. Hutson was not amused with being woken up at night so many times. Mike and I are breathing a sigh of relief that he has gone back to his sleeping ways now that the 48 hours are over.

BIG day
We're not necessarily potty training yet but Hutson may be ready. Earlier this week he said, "poop" so I took him to the potty and he peed! I couldn't believe it. He actually sat down and peed. So whenever he's said to me "poop" this week I've taken to the bathroom. Nothing has happened. This morning he told Mike "poop" (I can't believe I'm writing "poop" so much.) and Mike took him to the potty. Nothing happened but he pooped right after Mike had gotten him ready. This afternoon he said "poop" and we put him in the potty and HE POOPED ON THE POTTY! Honestly I can't believe it and I'm not sure if it's dumb luck or if he's ready to potty train. I suppose we'll see in the coming weeks.

"Life began when I saw your face"
Hutson is 18 months today. What an amazing 18 months it has been. Nineteen months ago I could not even begin to comprehend the love and joy you've brought us. I love you my boy.

Eduardo
Tuesday, Eduardo made landfall in Houston. It really just ended up being a lot of rain and wind. No damage done. However Hutson's school/daycare was closed and I took most of the day to work from home. I snapped some pictures of him playing around. He had a lot of fun playing cars and reading by himself or with Mike.

Cousins
Benton and Lynette came to see us this weekend. (Jeffrey has been away with the Army and Lynette and Benton are meeting him in San Antonio today.) Benton and Hutson had such a good time together. It was so fun to watch them play together. They especially had fun at the zoo together.
Benton was a hoot and we enjoyed listening to him. My favorite quote of the weekend is as follows. Benton was doing "This little piggy" with Hutson and started off with "This little piggy went to Wal-market." :)
Here are some pics.
